Alexander McQueen S/S 2001: VOSS
The show started almost 2 hours late, purposely, and the audience was forced to confront themselves with their reflection during the entire time. The spectators sat in front of a gigantic mirrored cube until the it was lit from the inside, and the audience room went dim.
The models walked with headbands tightly wrapped around their heads as though recovering from a head trauma. The location was, indeed, resembling a mental-hospital / asylum with double-sided mirrored walls. The models could only see their reflections but not the audience. Natural elements permeated the whole show, recreating what McQueen described in 2007 a “darkly romantic” environment.
The show seemed to explore fears and madness, questioning the concepts of beautiful and ugly, normal and the abnormal.
When the show seemed to be over, another smaller cube within the main cube, opened and its walls smashed on the floor, revealing a naked Michelle Olley wearing an oxygen mask, reclining in a chaise-lounge. Moths  flew out everywhere, almost stating that beauty can be found even in the most ugly places.

Thirty three years ago today, the music world lost one of its most unique and powerful young voices when Ian Curtis, lead singer and songwriter of Joy Division, committed suicide just hours before the Manchester, U.K. band was scheduled to depart for their first tour of North America. In their short run, Joy Division left behind two classic albums that bridged the gap between punk and new wave: 1979’s Unknown Pleasures and 1980’s Closer, both masterpieces of a dark, gloomy style of rock dubbed the Manchester Sound.
